The Reason

I never really listened to the words to this song tho I had heard it dozens of times. The spiritual significance of the lyrics didn’t hit me until I heard Julian Drive cover this song at a concert last Saturday. As you read these words, think of our response to God – and His love for us.

The Reason (originally by Hoobastank)

I’m not a perfect person
There’s many things I wish I didn’t do
But I continue learning
I never meant to do those things to you
And so I have to say before I go
That I just want you to know

I’ve found a reason for me
To change who I used to be
A reason to start over new
and the reason is you

I’m sorry that I hurt you
It’s something I must live with everyday
And all the pain I put you through
I wish that I could take it all away
And be the one who catches all your tears
Thats why I need you to hear

I’ve found a reason for me
To change who I used to be
A reason to start over new
and the reason is You [x4]

I’m not a perfect person
I never meant to do those things to you
And so I have to say before I go
That I just want you to know

I’ve found a reason for me
To change who I used to be
A reason to start over new
and the reason is you

I’ve found a reason to show
A side of me you didn’t know
A reason for all that I do
And the reason is you

Well, ther you have it. What are your thoughts?

Forgiveness…it’s a part of life on the Sharp End

I think it could be our response to God EXCEPT for the part that says:
“And all the pain I put you through
I wish that I could take it all away
And be the one who catches all your tears
Thats why I need you to hear”

We can’t take God’s pain away–that’s a wish that isn’t possible, as all wishes are I suppose. We won’t ever be able to catch God’s tears and take it all away. He puts our tears in a bottle and took all our sin away. Maybe the words could be rewritten to reflect that.

The rest of the song works well as our response to God however.
Just my opinions…. but you did ask.
