Everything You Were

[tweetmeme]

Little ball of black sitting so innocent
Rounded, concealing your darkest secret
Can you know what is about to happen?
Stepped on, crushed, turned into a flattened mess
All the smoke is released; you cannot hold it in.
Everything you were, you are no longer.

Such a common weed and yet so beautiful
Each tiny seed stem swaying in the breeze
Some picks you, plucks you from the earth
Blows on you, forces you to release your prize
All your glory is gone; you cannot keep your pride
Everything you were, you are no longer.

In the orchard, you stand with pride
Holding your fruit displaying it for all
Children climb your branches, eat your young
What is not eaten falls to the earth and dies
No longer do you hold your head so high
Everything you were, you are no longer.

King of the forest, mightiest of trees
Ever are you green, you are a sight to see
Each prized cone you hold so tightly in your grasp
Raging, uncontrolled flames gallop through your home
You want to hold them tight; you have to let them go
Everything you were, you are no longer.

You live your life the best way you know how
You have no cares, no worries for your years
But He won’t let you stay just as you are
Crushing, breaking, softening, molding, hurting, healing
What you hold tight you must release to Him
Everything you were, you are no longer.

Freedom, rest, peace, hope, promise
No longer must you hide in that facade
He has taken all your ugliness away now
You had to die to change to let go in order to live
Everything you were, you are no longer.
