Death

Death Valley

I watched a man die today –
Held his cold hand as he lay on the warm pavement.
Tried to keep from flinching as the blood gushed from his head –
and mouth.
Watched the life slowly fade from his eyes.
I said a prayer in hopes that he was righteous.

I watched a man die today –
Stood there as people made fun of him, mocked him, spat on him.
Heard him cry out in agony – forgiving and weeping – completing.
Watched as he seemed to just give up and let his life subside.
I said a prayer for myself as I pierced his side.

I watched a man die today –
Felt his pain as he tore away his old self.
Heard him cry out for mercy and grace.
Felt the water gush over him as he was laid asunder.
I said a prayer hoping that this old man is dead forever.

I died today.
